It can be considered for wider surrounds and other timber finishing jobs where the measurements make sense. If you’re renovating, take a look at what’s already in the room before choosing the new size. Skirting, door frames and nearby trim all come into play. Getting those proportions right usually matters more than picking the widest board available.
