The thicker face works well where you want the dark tone to read as a solid block of colour from the street, rather than a thin trim line.
Dark composite finishes are the ones most likely to fade under direct sun, so this batten is formulated to hold its black tone rather than washing out to grey within a season or two.
The wood-polymer composite base doesn't feed termites or absorb moisture the way solid timber does, which matters on a black finish where any swelling or staining would show immediately.
