Once a hardwood post reaches 150x150mm, it starts to become a fairly noticeable part of the building. This F14 rough sawn post has enough size to work as both a structural component, where appropriately specified, and a visible timber feature. That’s useful on pergolas, verandahs and outdoor structures where hiding the posts isn’t really the intention. The surface is rough sawn, so expect texture rather than a perfectly dressed face. Natural colour shifts, grain and other timber characteristics should also be expected. If you’re planning several exposed posts across the same structure, it’s worth considering how they’ll look together before installation. Most importantly, don’t choose 150x150mm simply because the proportions look right. Structural posts should match the size and grade stated in your plans or engineering documentation.
