Put a tape measure across 200mm before ordering this post. On paper it can sound like just another step up from 150mm; on site, it’s a substantial piece of hardwood. The 200x200mm square section gives the post plenty of physical and visual weight, making it relevant to larger structures and architectural work where a broad exposed post forms part of the design. Its rough sawn surface retains the natural texture of the timber, and variations in grain and colour should be expected. Large solid hardwood sections also need some thought when it comes to handling, unloading and installation, so sort that out before delivery day. For structural work, use the post only where its F14 grade, dimensions, species and other requirements agree with the project’s plans or engineering specification.
